I'm confused. Is this the age group that is going to compete in next year's U20 World Cup?

Well, this is the squad for 2 upcoming friendlies to help prepare the team for a tournmanet to see who qualifies for the European U-19 tournament to be held in October 2007.

Usually the coaches go for the better players instead of the younger ones (like Couceiro at U-21), the benefit is a more competitive team but the drawback is that using the better (older) players means that you cannot build a team around them over the long haul because they are here one day and too old in a year's time. Some of these players will be too old by October 2007 but right now it's important to qualify, next year we'll see who goes.

Bruno Pereirinha might go but then again in a year's time Pereirinha might be playing at U-21 level even though he's only 18 right now.

Players like Paim, Carriço, Patricio are good bets to represent Portugal at U-20 or maybe U-21 in a year's time.

Quanto ao Benfica não ter ninguém na equipa, o facto de terem desmantelado e dispensado todo o seu plantel de juniores que nada ganhou em 05/06 talvez seja a explicação para falta de presenças.
